A subculture is a social group with distinct set of shared norms, values, ideas and beliefs which are distinct from the dominant culture. Within the United States, The Deaf community constitutes as a powerful and distinct subculture. This is defined as a subculture because it is a niche group of person who share some common characteristics within a larger common culture. The special needs of the deaf community are very distinct from the larger mainstream culture, in terms of communication and understanding.
